The Faustine
Phantom Variable Reactance Attenuator (VRA)
is
a unique circuit design that virtually eliminates the tone killing effects
that are typical of power attenuators. If you love the sound of loud
tube amplifiers, but are discouraged by the fact that your favorite tube amp
running at its "sweet spot" is far too loud to be useful in most
performance or practice situations, then you have just found the solution.
But don't take our word for it, the internet is "buzzing" with
testimonies from Phantom owners and others who have had the
opportunity to test drive a Phantom with one of their favorite
tube amps. Check out some of our customer testimonies here.
Many of those
testimonies are from people who have tried other attenuators and found
them lacking in their ability to maintain the tone and dynamics of a
cranked tube amp at low volumes. You may be one of those people. Other
power attenuators almost universally employ frequency
"compensation" circuits that are required to be switched on at
lower volumes in an attempt to correct the squashed frequency response that
occurs at high attenuation levels, but they usually fall short of restoring
the tone, the feel, and the touch sensitivity of the amplifier at such low
volumes.
You won't find any such devices or switches on the Phantom
because they're not necessary, the Phantom is sonically
invisible from its loudest volume all the way down to its
quietest. It doesn't add any artifacts to the natural tone of the amp.
It is this unique characteristic that inspired the Phantom
name. To quote world-renowned amp designer and rack builder, Dave
Friedman, of Rack
Systems Ltd... "it sounds like nothing."
Go to the Media
page for some videos and audio files that demonstrate how well the Phantom
maintains your amplifiers' natural tone and feel at all
volumes.
The Phantom Dx is currently in very high demand and
each unit is built to very high standards. Consequently, there is a waiting list for the
Phantom, but if you wish to place an order, contact Faustine
so you can secure your position on the list. We are endeavoring to
increase production in a way that can maintain our standards and still
keep up with demand. You can find information regarding
the current production schedule and pricing on the
Order
page.
Take your time to peruse these pages and find out what the "buzz"
is all about. If you can't find the information you require in these
pages, or you have any further questions or suggestions, please contact us
at info@faustineamps.com.
Thank you for your interest in the Faustine Phantom VRA.
Tonefully,
